About the department

This Department has two broad units namely, General Haematology Laboratory and Blood Transfusion Unit, each of which further functions as either Clinical or Laboratory. The clinical service/consultations are provided to patients with either primary or secondary haematological disorders.

The Department primarily provides diagnostic services for primary and secondary haematological diseases. It also provides safe blood and most of the serological tests to all categories of patients of this hospital.

The Department is involved in the training of specialist doctors in Haematology and Blood Transfusion under the programmes of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African Postgraduate Medical College. It also plays a major role in the training of the Clinical Medical Students and Medical Laboratory Science Students of the University of Jos, the Medical Laboratory Science interns and other health-related personnel.
