About the department
The Department of Paediatrics was established in 1979 with the aim of meeting the growing and complex health care needs of children in Plateau State and her surrounding states. The department is also saddled with the responsibility of training of Resident Doctors and Medical Students. The vision of the department is to produce world class paediatricians with requisite competencies in the field of paediatrics. The doctors are trained to have in-depth knowledge of the pathologic, therapeutic and preventive basis of paediatrics.
Organization of the department
The Paediatrics Department has a Head of Department who coordinates the activities of the department. The department has the following units:
- Neonatology Unit
- Emergency Paediatric Unit
- Paediatric Medical Ward
- Paediatric Outpatient Clinic
- Paediatric Specialist Clinics
- Directly observed Therapy - short course of anti-TB (DOTS) Unit
- Diarrhoea Training Unit (DTU)
